Case of the Mondays

Well today I took the truck up to work as my traditional weekly mothballing from a gluttonous weekend spent driving it around to keep the seals from cracking and the tires from going flat. I thought I'd need it for an errand today as well, but the errand came to me and it remained firmly planted on the burning asphalt through the day and into the night.

My friend came by to pick me up for dinner and a ride home because I had to install some RAM in his PowerBook G4 before he took off on vacation so there was no bus for me today. Upon picking me up, he commented how he'd almost flown off the road several times after seeing some of the fleet-footed wildlife dashing down the sidewalks. He said he'd ride the bus every day if there were wildlife like this inhabiting his walk to the bus stop.

I did miss riding the bus today, but did enjoy the ride in the jeep with the lid off and the wind rushing through my hair. Riding the bus helps you savour the small things in life more than you can imagine. And having the choice to drive or not is one of the best luxuries of all.

One of my friends said to me, "Just wait til you take public transportation for 12 years and let me know what you think of it then..." I'm sure it won't always be pleasant and I can feel the day approaching when the ride feels like it takes 2 hours when forced to stand up in an over-stuffed bus filled with passengers needing to get off every 30 feet. But for now, I will enjoy it for what it is, an underutilized sales-tax subsidized, free ride to work that affords me health benefits all along the way.
