Rain Day!

So I got up this morning, still recovering from whatever illness I had yesterday and heard rain outside. I figured today would be a true test to see if I could keep up this busing business. I finally am ready to go and it stops raining and I figure the day is smiling on me, which it did until I got to my stop.

I arrive to find my bus stop completely flooded and I mean you can't get within 20 feet of the stop so I'm sitting there having to keep my eye out for when the bus is coming, denying me of reading time and making me look like someone waiting for a bus. It wasn't a bus stop today, it was a bus dock! Then it started to rain... I was waiting for the flood gates to open up as I watched car after car pass me by as I think to myself, "I don't have to do this." But then I go to the gas station tonight and drop 3/4 tank of gas into the Beast and it gave me the perspective I needed to welcome the occasional cloudburst with open arms.

I start thinking about the fact that my vehicle isn't clearcutting clouds of insects anymore, wondering just exactly how many bugs I've "spared" by not driving around every day. It really touched me and I imagined the bugs living out their lives and carrying out their purpose. Roadkill takes on a whole new meaning when you walk past it at 2.5 miles an hour as well. You see the beauty of what was a luxurious chestnut mane of a happy little squirrel and see all of the systems that make it a living creature in brilliant technicolor, disassembled in front of your eyes on the dissection table of asphalt crushed by the dull blade of a Goodyear.
