So what do you think the psychological impacts are of reacting to red signs or lights posted on the roads and freeways? I say stress. Red angers. Everyone sees red when they're mad. Red ink is the bane of school student or at least was until some teachers stopped using it because it was traumatic to children.
In this day of the awareness of "hypermiling," I can do without the stress of having to coast to stop lights and timing lights, not to mention living under the constant threat of being pulled over for any reason whatsoever. Having to keep one eye on your speedometer and the other on about 360 degrees of space around you just isn't peaceful. I tell you, after a few weeks of not seeing red or wondering if I'm speeding or swerving, I've found a new inner peace and calm I never knew existed. Has anyone done a study on the positive health effects of public transportation insofar as removing the stressors of driving? I doubt it. So far, there's only been one mad person on the bus that I've seen and it was in relation to them yelling at the bus driver to open the back door at a stop for some reason. Hasta la Vista stop signs and speeding ticket. Good riddance. I don't have to obey the rules of the road as I have diplomatic immunity to the laws as a passenger within the walls of my new-found embassy on wheels. I don't even have to wear a seatbelt anymore! My driver is there because they want to and are paid to do it. No one has ever paid me to drive. Let them absorb the risk and recoup some of the taxes I've paid over the years to subsidize this fabulous service.
