Today on the way in to work, I saw a man with a slight build capsized into a median with what looked to be a brand new motorbike pinning him beneath it. We were at the stoplight just long enough to see him pull himself out from under the bike and struggle to right it. He finally did, but overcompensated and dumped the bike into the street just as another man was rushing over to help him. I couldn't tell if he'd been hit, but surmised that he was a new rider and had misjudged the turn and ended up taking a wide right turn that proved to be more of an arc than he could handle. It was a bit painful watching that poor guy and knowing that he was probably more embarrassed than hurt, but I really felt for the guy. I know alot of people who are considering getting scooters or motorbikes and I just have one thing to say. If you can use the bus, use it. I've seen alot of uncomfortable looking people on motorbikes as of late and am glad I'm somewhat out of the way of such riders and vice versa. Way too many distractions now. For example, I was at a restaurant tonight and as I walked out, I noticed a huge array of people employing the use of their cellphones, game boys or PSPs. It was like one of those movies where the main character is frantically looking for a way out of a suffocating experience, but everywhere he looks, he sees that the entire place has been compromised and that there's no way out. It was almost scary how engrossed people were with these tiny devices.
On a lighter note, I passed a jogging woman who carried a portable cd player and an enormous smile. I wondered what she was listening to. There seem to be alot more female joggers than male joggers on this route.
By the time I was done with my shower and back at my desk, I'd noticed a fairly powerful smell emanating from my new Tevas. It would seem that one needs to periodically wash them or at least soak them in warm soapy water after several days of being used in a strenuous and warm atmosphere. Thank goodness I had a pair of socks which I donned to help wick away the moisture and slow the cloud of darkness that was making its unwanted presence known in my cube. They didn't smell like that in Colorado last week, that's for sure! I swear!
